Where The Abandons Filmed Near Calgary
The Abandons filmed on land at Stoney Park Campgrounds, about an hour west of Calgary on Stoney Nakoda Nation land. The Van Ness homestead set went up near Nakoda Lakeside Lodge on the property.
If you want the open frontier look that surrounds the homestead in the show, this guide will help you narrow down where to book.
What the production built here
The crew built the Van Ness homestead set near the lodge and filmed on the property through much of 2024. The wider landscape around that set came from the same land guests use today: open grassland, treed sections, river valley, and long western views.
Best sections to book
Section F: Best fit for the open homestead look. These sites sit on a ridge above the Bow River with the broadest views west.
Section A: Another strong option if you want big sky, open ground, and mountain views.
Section C: Better fit for the treed parts of the property and a quieter, more sheltered stay.
Section D: Choose this section if you need electrical hookups for an RV.
F7 is the site guests ask about most when they want the open ridgeline view.

Other productions filmed here
Stoney Park has also been used for The Last of Us, Prey, and The Revenant. The journal covers the campground sections tied to those productions if you want the filming-location side of the trip.
Cost and access
Stoney Park sits outside the provincial park system, so you do not need a Kananaskis Conservation Pass.
If you compare it with campgrounds in Kananaskis Country, that removes the extra pass cost from the trip. The booking price at Stoney Park is the full price you pay.
Getting there
Stoney Park is about an hour west of Calgary on Highway 1. Take the Morley exit to Highway 1A and follow the signs to the campground.
You can find the map and coordinates on the Stoney Park website.
